SCC Chivas U15 Boys Are Quarterfinalists in State Cup 2006

The SCC Chivas, U15 boys team in the SCC Breakers club, made it to the Quarterfinal round of this year's State Cup tournament. The team, coached by Juan Roman, faced tough competition in the first round of play on April 8-9, in what was arguably the "group of death" for their age group.

The Chivas won their first game 4-2 over last year's semifinalists, Napa Sport Indians, with Martin Monroy scoring all 4 goals. Chivas tied a strong Ballistic team 1-1, with Martin Monroy scoring the goal.

The next day the Chivas faced Mustang Strikers, who had won both of their previous games, with the winner going on to the next round. In a tightly contested match (with no score in the first half) Edgar Diaz earned a penalty kick, converted by Martin Monroy, and Shakaim Redrovan scored a second goal to clinch a 2-0 win.

Kevin Halasz earned a shut-out in goal. Chivas advanced to the Round of 16 where they faced another tough competitor - Ceres Earthquakes Real Madrid - in Morgan Hill on April 23. Martin Monroy scored off a free kick and Kevin Halasz held onto another hard-earned shut-out, with the final score 1-0. The quarterfinal game was played on April 29 in Ripon against De Anza Force Earthquakes. After the tied game went into overtime, De Anza scored on a golden goal, winning 2-1.
