Breakers 88 and 90 Girls Compete in the Texas College Showcase
The Santa Cruz County Breakers 88 and 90 girl’s teams were recently invited to the prestigious Texas Girls Shootout College Showcase in Houston, TX. The Texas Shootout is one of the countries premier College Showcases. In attendance were over 300 college and university coaches and scouts. Only the top level State, Regional and ODP teams were invited to this three day showcase. This event has long been recognized as a stepping stone for many youth players in getting exposed to college and university coaches. Made up of high school Juniors and Seniors, the Breakers 88 Girls had in attendance over 100 coaches at some of their games. Coached by Breakers Coaching Director Paolo Carbone and Devvyn Hawkins, the Breakers 88 girls received a number of inquiries by coaches about their players. "This is a great event for top level players all over the country to be in one place at one time" said Carbone. "High school juniors are the key grade level that college coaches focus on. We were very please that the Breakers players showed so well during this trip. This is an important tournament that our girls teams will continue to attend in the future. It was great to see April Heinrich, former US Women's National Team coach approach Devvyn Hawkins and talk to her for few minutes. Devvyn played under April Heinrich on the US National team. April is now coaching at UC Irvine.” The Breakers 90 girls made of High School Freshman and Sophmores also participated. "It was quite an honor to be selected for this event" said Breakers 90 coach Matt McDowell. "Though college coaches are not really focused on High School Freshmen and Sophmores, to participate at this high caliber tournament proves that our girls can play with anyone in the country. The girls represented the Breakers Club extremely well." What the Parents said: " It
was four days with the greatest group of young women it’s
been my pleasure to be associated with. Watching them bond and
come together as a team was a special experience. It was a true
display of heart out there in the 90+ degree Texas heat. The exposure
to college coaches who came from all around the country was impressive
and the competition on the field was amazing. I’m prouder
than ever to say I’m part of the Breakers club." " The
Texas Shootout answers a lot of questions for the aspiring college
player and the one who is always questioning how their ability
stands up to the best players in the country. You do not
get this experience by playing teams from your own state. It was
a great reality check to gauge the state of your team fitness and
how the Breaker Club effort measures up on a national scale to
some of the most dedicated programs focused on playing the beautiful
game beautiful. Time well spent." Click on any image below to view photo |
