U17B Santa Cruz County Breakers 88 Blue Regional Semifinalists at US Club Soccer National Cup July 4, 2006 - Boise, Idaho. The U17B Santa Cruz County Breakers 88 Blue were Super Group semifinalists in the US Club National Cup Regional this past weekend. There are two groups at these US Club Regionals, the Super Group and the Premier Group. The Super Group in each regional pits the most competitive teams in the nation against one another for an opportunity to play for the US Club National Championship. This regional is the second national competition the Breakers participated in two weeks…in each case bowing out in 1-0 heartbreaking losses to the eventual Regional champions in the semifinals match. The U17B Breakers went undefeated in bracket play with 3-1, 1-0 and 6-0 victories over Eastside FC (Tacoma, WA), Real Hawaii FC (Hawaii State Champions) and Santa Rosa United, respectively. Goal scorers through bracket play were Edward Murillo (Watsonville High graduate who has signed to play at San Jose State next fall), Alberto Mata (Soquel High graduate playing at Cabrillo College next fall) and Colby Moore (Bellarmine High graduate who will be playing at San Jose State next fall), Manny Leos (Aptos High), Erik Espinoza (Watsonville High), Kin Lam (who will be playing at UC Davis in the fall). Despite numerous attempts on goal, the Breakers were unable to find the back of the net in the semifinal match against Washington Crossfire (Redmond, WA) and lost on a break away goal in the 20th minute. Excellent goalkeeping by Jeremy Delre (Bellarmine High) and Philip Bliss (Scotts Valley High) resulted in two shutouts and a 10-for and 2-against goal differential for the tournament. The U17B Breakers resume Super Y League play this Saturday at 6 PM at the Aptos Polo Grounds and Sunday at 5 PM at Sky Park in Scotts Valley. Read the Santa Cruz Sentinal article HERE |
