Years of building a strong girls program paid off as Coach Devvyn Hawkins lead the Breaker U18 girls team as they took the Soccer-by-the-Bay U19 Championship in OT over the Folsom Riot in San Carlos on Sunday, August 16th.

The Championship marks a milestone for Coaching Director Paolo Carbone; many of these girls are the first in the history of the Breakers club to move through the entire Breakers program, starting as U11 players under newly-appointed Coaching Director Carbone. All the girls played up at least one age group to compete against the other seven U19 team in the top division.

This very young U19 Championship team consisted of only six U18 and nine U17 players. In addition, two U16 Breaker girls were asked to join the U18 roster for the weekend - Kiara Burkett and Elena Venable. These two outstanding young players were vital to the success of the team during the entire weekend series. Sixteen year-old keeper Brooke Prinzing continued her reputation as the “Prinzing Wall,” with unbelievable saves, and the team’s offense dominated the scoring in their bracket with 10 goals for weekend. Also joining the U18 girls were three solid attackers new to the U18 girls’ US Club roster from the Santa Catalina School and who play in CYSA under the Monterey Bay League.

Many of the girls that completed this weekend just came off a heart-breaking loss on the other side of the bay the weekend before. The Breakers very young U17 team lost the Championship game 2-3 due to a disputed penal kick to the top-ranked Merced United in the Mission Valley Classic’s top U17 division.

Congratulations girls and thank you Coach Hawkins and Director Carbone for the vision and dedication to the players!
