U18 Breakers 88 Boys Win Bracket to Advance to Round of 16 in State Cup Tournament Cherry Island Soccer Complex, Sacramento - The SCC Breakers 88 boys, who are attempting to win their fourth State Cup in five years tuned up for their trip to Bellinzona, Switzerland to play in the 2007 Torneo Internazionale di Bellinzona U19 Professional Club Youth Academy tournament by winning two and drawing one match this weekend in the fist round of the California State Cup Tournament with a collective goal differential of 20 goals for and 1 against. Erik Espinoza, Jose Gonzalez and Ben Milam each scored hat tricks. Jeremy Delre registered the two shutouts in goal. The Breaker 88 boys won their first two matches on Saturday (11-0 vs. Mission Tigres of San Francisco and 8-0 vs. Ajax Pride of Modesto). Sunday morning brought very stiff competition against the powerful Mustang side from Danville, coached by ex-San Jose Earthquake and USA National team defender John Doyle). By virtue of both teams winning the first two matches on Saturday the Breakers needed no less than a draw to win in the bracket. After a tightly contested first 35 minutes the Mustang went ahead on a scrappy goal from a knock down in the box on a set play. The Breakers drew even in the 55th minute on a goal created by Jose Gonzalez when he stripped a Mustang defender deep their half and crossed the ball in to Bernabe Camacho. The Mustang keeper made a tremendous save on Camacho’s short range shot but left a rebound for Alberto Mata, who drove the ball into the Mustang goal for the critical equalizer. The draw sent the Breakers through into the State Cup round of 16 to be played in Morgan Hill on April 15, 2007. U18B SCC Breakers 88 Start Final Youth Season with Two Premier League Victories U18 Santa Cruz County Breakers 88 Boys Select soccer team, winner of three State Championships, opened the 2006 California State Premier League season, the last this team of will play together, with two impressive victories beating their opponents by a total goal differential of 9-2. The Breakers beat the USA Seventeen 5-0 in the season opener. Although, the Seventeens had just returned from a highly touted trip to Portugal where they played top professional sides, Jose Gonzalez and the Breakers were unstoppable had on the day. Gonzalez had a stand out day with 3 goals and two assists. The other two goals were scored on headers by Erik Espinoza and Allen Hardison. The Breaker back four of Hardison, Reed Johnson, Josh Converse and Walker Linares were credited with limiting the Seventeens to only a few shots on goal. The second match of the season saw Gonzalez score two of the teams four goals in a 4-2 victory over the DeAnza Blue, one of which was assisted by Ben Poser. Eric Espinoza and Manny Leos each scored a goal, both after spectacular defensive efforts to strip a DeAnza defender of the ball before beating the goal keeper from close range. 88 BLUE WIN 3rd STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN FOUR YEARS! The U17 SCC Breakers 88 Blue Boys Select Soccer Team won the U17 CYSA-North
State Championship this afternoon by beating the River City Thunder team
from Sacramento 2-1. After 40 minutes of goalless soccer, Jose Gonzalez, a
Breaker captain, put the Santa Cruz team on the board after receiving a
pass from Manny Leos. Gonzalez collected the ball at the 20 yard line took
one touch past a defender and unleashed a hard driven ball just inside the
right post beating a River City Thunder keeper that had only given up 5
goals the entire tournament. Second half play was intense from one end to
the other in a hotly contested second half until the 65th minute when
Alberto Mata, another team captain, scored an unassisted goal after
dribbling three players in the penalty box before pushing the ball past
